I agree with Valerie. I am a stay at home Mom by choice and used to work full time as a Legal Assistant. I remember dreaming of the day I could stay home with my kids and start working on my Graphic Design business at home and now that its finally come I am having the hardest time making use of the time I longed for. It just seems so difficult to get motivated and become productive. When I was at the office I was so organized and efficient but at home it seems impossible. I would love to hear some tips on how to make the switch so I can stop procrastinating and living my dream not to mention help my husband financially.

Thanks so much for all your help!

God Bless,
Leeann

Hi Anth,

Good to see you are still helping others to create productive lives. I lived by the Nike adage "Just Do It!" for a number of years and actually learned to swim and play the piano, something I promised myself I would do by the time I was 40, I am now 55 and although I can only fully play The Gummy Bear Boogie on the keyboard and only swim on my back, I feel as if I'd done something magnanimous and even typing this, I feel I can do so much more.

I must let you know that I am procrastinating a great deal less (examples: I have new glasses and finally a hearing aid; I was worried about the cost not putting it off due to vanity and felt "what the hey", I need 'em, God will provide the funds".) My life will be so much more productive as I can now see and hear as I ought and I'll be less inclined to give into my fears and agoraphobia.

You're a peach!
Blessings,
Susan

PS Today, I am finally washing the floors in my home after putting it off for what seems like years! lol

I find the visioning process you've outlined here very helpful. I'm sure that many of your clients/readers are working in offices etc., but I am now an artist and writer working in a home studio. I did work for an entire career in the communications business, often living with enormous pressures, but now that I am retired, I find it harder to accomplish my creative goals. It is ironic because this is the time I have always longed for, a time in which I can finally do the things I've dreamed of. And yet, each day, the time slips away so quickly. It is as though I am having to re-learn how to set goals and get things done without the imposed deadlines of my working life. Any tips you may have about this are, as always, most welcome.

THank you very much for this supportive article Anth. It is inspiring me to be more honest with myself in terms of what I want to acheive, but now I have to understand what is the practical application and how to accomplish that.

I noticed a couple of typos that I wanted to bring to your attention, as a small service to you :

I think there may be a word missing here or a grammatical error

"If you think about it you can only procrastinate on something for which you have some form of outcome, how could you put it off?"

Perhaps it should read "so how could you put it off?"

2. " it’s only be taking the time to actually describe in detail what you want "

It should read "its only BY taking the time..."

3. "it is very likely being vague and unspecific!"

I think it should read "it is very likely DUE TO being vague and unspecific!"

My way to procrastinate is to chat online. I live and travel in a van and feel quite ungrounded. I have no fixed address. All my things ( books and musical instruments ) are in storage. I became a Hindu monk 34 years ago, but after 10 yrs married, got divorced, went back to being a monk for another 4 yrs, and then got separated from that wife as well. I dont feel I could call my self a true monk right now, but I still follow many of the core values and practices.

My goal is to establish a dynamic holistic Eco VIllage with a spiritual healing retreat at its core. THere would be a spacious seminar room that would double for spiritual practices, music and personal growth speakers such as yourself to dialogue from. Herbalists that would take us into the woods to reconnect us with natures healing gifts, pure detoxifying meals preapared under my guidance, and a full library of uplifting books. An organic garden, off the grid solar or wind power, a future for others.....

Thanks very much for doing the work youre doing. I need to spend much more time going through your stuff. Im trying to sell a few Chrismtas type cards right now to fund my next trip to India, as it is too cold to live in my van during Jan - April.

Cheers !

Your friend,
Gaura
